Helping Kids in Kenya

Posted by Wendy Sanders on 11/29/17 @ 3:28 PM

HHICC FAMILY - YOU CAN HELP KIDS IN KENYA!
Pick up your BRICK BOX this Sunday in the Kids Ministry lobby and start collecting coins and dollars.

Together, Brick by Brick, we can change the lives of over 400 kids!

You probably already know Compassion as a trusted organization that works to rescue kids from poverty through child sponsorships and a variety of physical, social, economic, and spiritual development opportunities. But who interacts with these children on a daily basis to provide the support they so desperately need? In short, Compassion partners with local churches to create centers that address the specific needs of these kids and the broader needs of families and communities. While Compassion provides the resources, local church staff, and educators serve as the hands and feet of Jesus to kids and families.

That’s why we’re joining with Compassion International to raise support that will launch two brand-new Compassion centers in Kenya’s Rift Valley region. The funds we provide will help two existing churches build, repair and supply new spaces and programs to facilitate the physical, mental, and spiritual health of more than 400 kids . . . not to mention their families and communities. (That’s more than 3,500 additional individuals!) We’re talking everything from playground equipment and lunch dishes to desks, plumbing, windows, and doors.

Hilton Head Island Community Church is encouraging our families to support this wonderful mission through the Christmas Holiday. Beginning December 3rd, children can pick up a brick box to be filled with dollars and change throughout the month of December. Boxes are due back to the church by January 7th, 2018 so we can tally up the money and send it off to Compassion International!

Church Security Update from Pastor Todd

Posted by Cynthia Cullen on 11/06/17 @ 2:50 PM

We have all been very overwhelmed by the tragic event that occurred on Sunday, November 5 at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. As your Pastor, I wanted to communicate with you about what we are doing as a church staff, Guest Services, and Parking/Security team with regard to security on Sundays at HHICC.

We had a security assessment completed 18 months ago and from that meeting, here are the things that have been addressed:

  • On Sundays, the Main Doors of the Worship Center are the only doors that remain unlocked throughout the morning. The Kids Ministry doors are locked every Sunday.
  • Our parking and security team will also have one volunteer sitting inside the doors throughout the service moving forward.
  • Access to the facility during the week is through the Weekday Entrance using ring.com and using a door bell. The facility doors remained locked at all times.

In the past, we have tried to secure off duty police offers for Sundays and this is not something that Beaufort County formally provides for churches. Moving forward, we have decided to hire a private security company, Coastal Security Services, which will include a uniformed security officer on Sundays and for our Christmas Eve Services.

Maintaining a safe campus is very important to me as your pastor. Please let me know if you any questions by emailing me at tcullen@hiltonheadislandcc.org.
